Muktinath is a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhists and is located in the district of Mustang, with an elevation of approximately 3,800 meters from the sea level, in the Hindu religion it is called Mukti Kshetra. The meaning of the name is a place of liberation or to get moksha.
In Muktinath, there is the Temple of Lord Vishnu. Hindu people believe that visiting this temple even once will relieve you of your sorrows. This temple is considered to be 106th among the available 108 Divya Desam. It serves as a “Place of Salvation” and it is said that if you bathe in the water of Muktinath will you get salvation after death.
For Tibetan Buddhists, it is also a very important place. They believe the great guru Rinpoche did meditation there. Nowadays it is a very prominent destination for people of all ages, especially for pilgrimages. Muktinath is reachable by road and has air access.
Diverse landscapes, cultures and rural lifestyle of Nepali people can be observed during the trip. This part of Nepal is inhabited by Gurungs and Magars in the lower regions of the Kali Gandaki, Thakalis around Jomsom and people with obvious Tibetan roots, the Lopa, around Muktinath and upper Mustang.
To get to Muktinath you can have a choice by flight or by land. There are daily flights from Kathamandu-Pokhara-Jomsome and vice versa or Kathmandu-Pokhara -Kagbani and back from the same route by public bus or any private vehicle. We will plan your trip according to your wishes.
